My Story

"When the Bugle Calls" - A Soldier's Memoir is a heartwarming and true story of a powerful triumph of faith and determination over adversity.

It follows the adventures of a son of a World War II veteran through an amazing series of events from 1961 to 1991. This rags to riches story shares how Ray Boland, a young boy from the other side of the tracks, rises to positions of high national security responsibilities.

In 1956, Ray enlisted in the National Guard to avoid being drafted.  Eventually, he became a Colonel in the Regular Army and commanded a combat brigade in Germany, near the end of the Cold War.  He served 2 years of combat duty in Vietnam as an Army pilot.

Throughout his 30 years of active Army service, Ray struggled to overcome barriers, personal shortcomings, and human tragedy.  But he never gave up.  Ray shares his eyewitness perspectives of 50 years of American history in a tribute to all of the men and women who served our nation.

Reviews

Ray has captured life in his book: “When The Bugle Calls, A Soldiers Memoir”

Not knowing much about the military way of life, I was taken into much of that life in the book. He entered the non-traditional way and aimed to make the most of it all the way through. I feel he was good at his jobs in the military while also providing a good home life for his wife and growing family.

As I read the book, I couldn’t help but think of people I know who would also enjoy reading “When The Bugle Calls, A Soldiers Memoir.” I highly recommend his book and wish Ray well with his true life story made into a book for all to read and enjoy.
